Wildcard winners Vismans and Keemink overwhelmed after opening match

Amsterdam, the Netherlands, June 28, 2015 – Two months ago Dutch pair Sven Vismans and Wessel Keemink were not sure if they would play on home sand during the Netherlands 2015, FIVB Beach Volley World Championships.

In March though they won the wildcard place that was open for Dutch teams at the World Championships. Now, the two have played their first match and are enjoying their time in Amsterdam.

“It is an amazing experience for us. We are a really young team and we do not have a lot of experience in the World Tour,” Keemink said. “I was injured two years ago. It took me quite long to recover and now I am finally back and fit.”

In their first match Keemink and Vismans lost 2-0 (21-12, 21-14) to the Russian pair Semenov and Krasilnikov. Although they lost Vismans was very happy with the way they played.

“‘It is a great experience and the audience was amazing,” he said. “I knew it was going to be a tough match. Russia are a really good team. Although the result wasn’t good, I think we can be really happy with the way we played.”

Vismans, meanwhile is finding it amazing to play in Amsterdam, his home town.

“The venue is the best I have ever seen,” he said. “It is my first World Championship and I hear from a lot of other players that they like Amsterdam quite a lot. Everybody is amazed by the beauty of the venue. It can’t get any better.”
