Unique stadium presented for finals

 
The Hague, the Netherlands, May 3, 2014 - The opening matches, semifinals and finals of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships The Netherlands 2015 will be played in a floating stadium on the Hofvijver pond in The Hague it was revealed today.

The stadium will be the showpiece of a unique tournament which will unfold across four cities. Transavia.com will be the presenting partner of the World Championships.

On March 4 the The Hague municipal council agreed on the construction of a temporary beach volleyball stadium in the Hofvijver for the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships The Netherlands 2015. The new world champions will be crowned in a stadium with a 5,500 seat capacity

The eye catching stadium, against the iconic backdrop of the Binnenhof, where the Dutch government and Parliament are located, will be at the centre of the beach volleyball world for 10 days.

Karsten Klein, The Hague’s alderman for sports, is convinced the stadium will provide great excitement.

“The World Championships will be wonderful event, and this location is fitting,” he said. “It will create a lot of attention for both beach volleyball and The Hague. It is important to have this stadium in the heart of the city as we want to involve all the people of The Hague in this tournament. The World Championships are far more than a sport event, it will be a feast for the city and its inhabitants.”

Host cities
The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships The Netherlands 2015 will have a unique set-up with four host cities. Matches will be played in The Hague, Amsterdam, Apeldoorn and Rotterdam. Stadiums in the latter three cities will have a capacity of 2,000 and will host pool matches, as well as matches in the round of 32, round of 16 and the quarterfinals.
