Spaniards beat the heat to defeat Vanuatu to advance.

 
The Hague, The Netherlands, July 1, 2015 - In a hotly-contested Beach Volleyball contest where the air temperature on the sand of The Hofvijver stadium court in the 2015 FIVB “senior” World Championships neared 40° C (104°F), Elsa Baquerizo and Liliana Fernandez of Spain scored a 2-0 win (21-19, 23-21) in 44 minutes over Linline Matauatu and Pata Miller of Vanuatu.It was the first FIVB World Tour meeting between the two teams as the eighth-seed Spaniards are guaranteed their third-straight ninth-place finish in the world championships are posting those placements in Rome 2011 and Stare Jablonki (Poland) 2013.With the win over the 31-seeded Vanuatu pair, who served for an opportunity to send the match into a deciding third set, Baquerizo and Liliana play ninth-seeded Fernanda Alves and Taiana Lima of Brazil Thursday with the winner advancing to an evening quarter-final match at The Hofvijver stadium court.  Baquerizo and Liliana won two of three matches against Fernanda and Lima in 2014, including an elimination match last July in the United States.The Brazilians, who won the 2014 Dutch Grand Slam gold medal and have won 11-straight matches in The Hague, advanced with a 2-0 (21-12, 21-14) win in 35 minutes in Wednesday's first of four women's elimination matches.
