Schuil already enjoying ‘perfect atmosphere’

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, June 27, 2015 – Dutch beach volleyball legend and Netherlands 2015, FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships ambassador Richard Schuil is someone who you can’t miss while wandering around the court in Amsterdam.

On the second day of the Championships Schuil has already been to two out of the four venues; yesterday he was in The Hague, but of all the venues he would say Amsterdam’s court next to the Royal Palace is his favourite venue.

“It is not too big and the location is very beautiful,” he said. “It is the first time beach volleyball has been played on Dam Square.”

Schuil played on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour from 2006 until 2013 and won nine gold medals and featured at four World Championships and two Olympic Games. Before switching to beach volleyball he was a member of the Dutch volleyball team that won gold at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games.

The proud ambassador Schuil is happy about how the World Championships are going so far.

“‘It is fantastic,” he added. “Yesterday we had a great opening ceremony in The Hague. I heard it will be sold out in Amsterdam today. The atmosphere is perfect.”

With the Championships just started there is a lot to look forward to and that is exactly what Schuil is doing.

‘I’m looking forward to the Dutch teams’ matches during the first few days,” he said. “There will be a lot of fans and some really great matches. I’m also looking forward to the matches after the pool phase, such as the quarterfinals.”
