Nummerdor out for up to six weeks

The Hague, the Netherlands, April 27, 2015 – FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship 2015 top seed Reinder Nummerdor has been told the Achilles tendon injury he suffered during last week’s Fuzhou Open will need three to six weeks to recover.

It means the 38-year old Dutch veteran should be fit for the World Championships, which will take place in the Netherlands from June 26 to July 5.

Nummerdor and partner Christiaan Varenhorst were forced to withdraw from the Fuzhou Open on Friday whilst leading against Americans Todd Rogers and Stafford Slick in the second elimination round.

After flying home, doctors established that there was no severe damage to his Achilles tendon.

The Dutch coaching staff will consider an alternative programme for Christiaan Varenhorst over the next few weeks. The 24-year old blocker is expected play with a different partner at the CEV Continental Cup taking place from May 9 to 10 in Cyprus.
