World Championships welcomes over 100,000

Rotterdam, the Netherlands, July 1, 2015 - When Glenn Grootenboer bought a ticket on Wednesday for the evening match of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships The Netherlands 2015 in Rotterdam, he probably was not expecting to leave with such a haul of gifts as the 100,000th.

He attended day five of the tournament along with his son, but he had already checked out the action a few days earlier.

"Truly amazing," he said of the action on the court. "I have come a few times already this week because it is so awesome, but I did not expect this to happen of course,”

His prizes included two tickets from airline Transavia to a destination of choice together with an ss Rotterdam hotel offer for two people.

The fact that 100,000 people have already visited the tournament is an important milestone for tournament director Bas van de Goor.

"It exceeds our most wildest dreams."

Today and tomorrow (quarterfinals) will be played in the four cities. the action then moves to The Hague for the semifinals.

"I expect to be sold out for the final weekend," van de Goor added. "The ticket sale is going fast already these days. But you can still buy tickets, if not online, then still at the door."
