The Hague, the Netherlands, July 5, 2015 – Evandro Gonclaves delivered a serving clinic as he and Pedro Solberg powered to Bronze with a 22-20, 21-13 victory over Theodore Brunner and Nick Lucena at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship 2015 in The Hague.
The Brazilians narrowly claimed the opener, but there was no doubt as to who dominated in the second as Evandro went on the rampage.
The Brazilians started strongly, taking a quick 3-0 lead. But a Brunner block saw the Americans draw level. But Evandro built up a two point gap following a huge serve, measuring 87 kmh. Lucena/Brunner, who beat Pedro/Evandro on the way to bronze at the St Petersburg Grand Slam in June, reversed that lead with another Brunner block. However Evandro again powered back, and an ace ended the set in his and Pedro’s favour.
The second set started as the first ended, with another booming serve from Evandro. But the Americans focused and went ahead 8-7. But Evandro again utilized his powerful attacking game, constantly asking questions of the American’s serve reception and thrilling the crowd. He stayed at the base line for much of the second half of the set, raining down jump serve after jump serve. An error gave Brunner/Lucena a slim hope on set point but it was not to be as Evandro/Pedro ensured two podium places for Brazil.
