The Hague, The Netherlands, July 1, 2015 - It is now up to Reinder Nummerdor and Christiaan Varenhorst to protect The Netherlands’ place on the list of world championship team as the tandem scored a two-set win over a pair of Russian teenagers here Wednesday evening on the sand at The Hofvijver stadium court.With a 2-0 (21-19, 21-10) win in 33 minutes over 31st-seeded Oleg Stoyanovskiy and Artem Yarzutkin of Russia in the fourth of four elimination matches play Wednesday at The Hofvijver stadium court. It was the Dutch’s first match against the Russians, who captured the gold medal at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games in China.Prior to Nummerdor and Varenhorst’s match, the Dutch pairs of 20th-seeded Alexander Brouwer/Robert Meeuwsen and 30th-seeded Steven van de Velde/Michiel van Dorsten were eliminated by teams from Brazil and Mexico, respectively. Brouwer and Meeuwsen were the defending world champions after capturing the 2013 crown in Stare Jablonki, Poland.With their fourth-straight win at The Hofvijver stadium court after win three pool play matches earlier in the competition, Nummerdor and Varenhorst will play another Russian pair Thursday after19th-seeded Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Konstantin Semenov advanced with a three-set win over fifth-seeded Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai of Italy.Nummerdor and Varenhorst will be playing the Russians for the second-time on the FIVB World Tour as the Dutch posted a two-set win last August over Krasilnikov and Semenov in the Polish Grand Slam in Stare Jablonki. It was the first international event for the Nummerdor/Varenhorst partnership.
