Dutch teams learn cities for pool phase

The Hague, the Netherlands, March 6, 2015 – The Dutch pairs who will compete in front of their home fans at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships The Netherlands 2015 today discovered which of the four cities they will play in during the pool stages.

The preliminary round of the Beach Volleyball World Championships will be played in The Hague, Amsterdam, Apeldoorn and Rotterdam with each city welcoming at least one Dutch men’s and women’s pair. A total of nine duos from the Netherlands will take part in the tournament.

Men’s tandem Reinder Nummerdor/Christiaan Varenhorst and reigning European Champions Madelein Meppelink/Marleen van Iersel, the highest ranked teams on the FIVB World Ranking have earned the right to compete in The Hague, the centre piece of the action.

The second Dutch men’s team to play in The Hague will be decided in the Dutch Premier League in May and June, with the eventual winners clinching a wild card place.

Robert Meeuwsen/Alexander Brouwer will begin their defence of the Beach Volleyball Men’s World Championship crown they won in Stare Jablonki in 2013 in Rotterdam. As a result of several injuries, the team has dropped a few places in the FIVB World Ranking and will not be the top-seeded Dutch side.

The women’s team to play in Rotterdam will be decided in May, with the winner of the Dutch Premier League earning a wild card berth.

Amsterdam will welcome the second Dutch women’s team: Sophie van Gestel/Jantine van der Vlist. Wessel Keemink/Sven Vismans will also turn out in front of their home fans in Amsterdam after they won the wild card event which drew to a close on Friday.

Elsewhere, Men’s pair Michiel van Dorsten/Steven van de Velde and women’s duo Rimke Braakman/Jolien Sinnema will entertain the home crowd in Apeldoorn.

The Drawing of Lots will take place on March 30, with the full schedule then confirmed.
