World Championships opening ceremony to get royal seal of approval

 
The Hague, the Netherlands, May 18, 2015 - King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands will attend the opening ceremony of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships The Netherlands 2015 on June 26. 

The Opening Ceremony will be held at the Royal Theatre in The Hague with the first matches of the tournament played directly afterwards in the floating stadium on the nearby Hofvijver.

“We think it is a huge honour that our king has announced his presence at the opening day of the World Championships,” FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships The Netherlands 2015 tournament director Bas van de Goor said. “For us it is another confirmation that we are working tirelessly on putting together a special sporting event in the Netherlands.”

It is the first time the Beach Volleyball World Championships will take place in the Netherlands with the competition running from June 26 to July 5 across four cities. Besides The Hague matches will be played in Amsterdam, Apeldoorn and Rotterdam. The finals will be played on July 4 and July 5 in The Hague.

Madelein Meppelink/Marleen van Iersel and Reinder Nummerdor/Christiaan Varenhorst will start their World Championship campaign on Friday night in front of almost 5,000 fans in The Hague.
