Brouwer and Meeuwsen top World Tour ranking

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 9, 2015 – FIVB Beach Volleyball world champions Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen are timing the defence of their world title to perfection following this year's opening FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour events by topping the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour ranking.

So far in 2015 men have played four events; the Fuzhou Open, the Lucerne Open, the Moscow Grand Slam and the FIVB Major Series Event in Porec, while women have played the same four tournaments, plus the single gender Prague Open in May.

Points from the World Rankings will contribute to qualifying for the World Tour Finals in Fort Lauderdale, USA from 29 September – October 4. It will feature the top eight teams per gender based on a cumulative ranking of points from Grand Slams, Majors and Opens.

The current World Tour event is the Major Series tournament in Stavanger, Norway, which runs until June 14.

Brouwer and Meeuwsen won gold at the inaugural FIVB Major Series Event in Porec, their first World Tour title since the 2013 World Championships and earlier in the season won silver at the first-ever Lucerne Open.

They lead with 2,180 points ahead of Spain’s Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira, who won their first World Tour gold medal at the Moscow Grand Slam.

German duo Julia Sude and Chantal Laboureur top the women’s standings with 1,880 points. They won silver at the Fuzhou Open and narrowly lead from Canada’s Jamie-Lyn Broder and Kristina Valjas, who won gold in Fuzhou and followed up with bronze in Lucerne.
