Akers joins Dutch coaching staff ahead of Beach Volleyball World Championships

The Hague, Netherlands, March 11, 2015 - The Dutch Federation has recruited American coach Angie Akers to help strengthen the country’s beach volleyball team ahead of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships The Netherlands 2015. Akers will focus on assisting the Dutch women’s teams and work closely with head coach Morph Bowes.

Akers spent several years on the international circuit as a player with honours including a bronze medal at an FIVB Volleyball World Tour stop in The Hague. She has also been active as a coach, primarily in the United States.

"I am very pleased that I get the chance to work with the Dutch women," said Akers. "I enjoy working with athletes of this high level and I am impressed with the sport programme here. In addition, this is for me a great opportunity to work in a new culture. I hope I can use my knowledge and experience to help the Dutch women achieve their goals. I look forward to a successful season for all our teams."

Coach Morph Bowes is excited about Akers’ arrival: "I am very pleased that Angie has decided to work with us, she is a great addition to the coaching pool and someone who can act as a mentor for our players. She brings a wealth of international experience, and I think she can turn her positive energy to the transfer of technical and tactical information. I'm glad Angie is on board now for the World Championships and also for the 2016 Olympics."
