Prior to the 2015 season, Diaz and Gonzalez had never competed together on the FIVB World Tour. While Diaz has no experience playing in FIVB prior to this season, Gonzalez did compete in the under-19 World Championships in 2008 in The Hague where he placed ninth with Yaismel Borrel as the pair won six-straight matches before being eliminated by Johan van der Poel and Christiaan Varenhorst of The Netherlands. Gonzalez attempted to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics Games with Karell Pena as the pair won five of eight matches together in the Moscow World Cup qualifier. Diaz and Gonzales opened their 2015 season by winning a NORCECA gold medal at the end of April in the Cayman Islands. Since 2009, Gonzalez has competed in 23 NORCECA tour stops prior with sight gold medals, 21 podium placements and 22 “final four” finishes. During the 2014 season, he and Diaz won three of five NORCECA events with a second- and third-place to their credit.
