Seeded 20th in the competition, Brouwer and Meeuwsen are the defending World Champions after capturing the title in 2013 at Stare Jablonki, Poland. It was the Dutch’s only appearance in the FIVB World Championships as the pair won seven of eight matches highlighted by a 44-minute gold medal win (21-18 and 21-16) over Alvaro Filho and Ricardo Santos of Brazil. Brouwer and Meeuwsen, who formed their partnership in 2011, enters the 2015 season with two FIVB World Tour medals to their credit along with three “final four” finishes. Hampered by injuries last season, the Dutch’s best placement in 2014 was a fifth in Long Beach. Brouwer and Meeuwsen opened the 2015 FIVB World Tour season by placing second in China at the Fuzhou Open. Brouwer netted the silver medal at the 2008 FIVB under-21 World Championships with Christiaan Varenhorst in Brighton, England.
